Space, Power, Evidence
Forensic Architecture
Seminar (Urban Studies / Media Studies)
Al-Quds Bard College, Jerusalem (Palestine)
17 Sep 2016
Shadow analysis, extract from the report “Rafah: Black Friday” (Forensic Architecture/Amnesty International)
The seminar will introduce the work of Forensic Architecture, a research agency undertaking spatial and media analysis to investigate violations of human rights and international law.
We will start by a presentation of a selection of recent projects and reports; those will serve as a basis to outline the conceptual framework of the project – understood, not only as a engaged practice, but also as a critical exploration of present conflicts and politics. With the support of the theoretical references suggested (Foucault, Weizman, Easterling, …), we will try to reflect on how spatial practices can be mobilised to act upon contemporary mechanisms of power, and on what role evidence can play in this effort.
